1. What is Story Club?

Story Club is like Fight Club.  Except everyone tells stories instead of punching each other in the face. And everyone talks about Story Club.  Everyone.

2. When does Story Club meet?

The first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm.

3. Where does Story Club meet?

At Holiday Club in Uptown—4000 N. Sheridan Ave, just a half block north of the Sheridan Red Line stop.

4.  Who can join Story Club?

Anyone!  Storytellers can sign up for an open mic slot before the show (7:30 pm) and submit a piece of writing to be one of our featured performers.

5.  How much does it cost?

Shows are free of charge with a suggested donation of $5.
Food and drink are also available to order, provided by the Holiday Club wait staff.  (Come hungry!)

6. What kind of stories are told at Story Club?

We accept first person stories of fiction or nonfiction.  Open mic slots run a max of 8 minutes (about 1300 words).

6. What if it's my first time performing?

Awesome!  We love having new performers at Story Club.

We pride ourself in being the perfect venue for many writers to use as their first performance space.  You will get a microphone, a music stand for your pages, a stool (if you want to sit), and a timer.  You'll also get you one of the most attentive, welcoming audiences in Chicago.

We want to hear from you!

1. What is Live Lit?

Live Lit is an incredibly exciting performance literature movement in Chicago. In 2009, venues for storytelling were scarce, but today there are over a dozen monthly shows held all over the city!  As the number keeps growing, so does the audience.  Check out our Live Lit Page for a full listing of the other organizations.

2. How can I become involved?

Get involved by coming to a show and telling a story!  Some shows may be open mic (Story Club, Do Not Submit, Here's the Story, Write Now!), others may be curated, but all are looking for new voices to put up on stage.

3. How can I start a Story Club in my area?

Start a Story Club in your own city or even your own Chicago neighborhood by emailing dana@storyclubchicago.com and letting us know you're interested. We're always looking for more ways to bring the Live Lit experience to new audiences.
